WOSC 8 Hour Race 2017

The WOSC annual 8 Hour Race took place on Sunday 27th September. For those members who have not competed in the race or not spectated, I will attempt to give you a flavour of what you have missed. Read about it here.

Les and Graham win!

14:56:17 on Sunday 25 May 2014 was the time at which Les and Graham finished the second race of the day. To the great surprise, nay amazement, of many it was in fact the winning time. After the RO had checked, rechecked and checked his calculations once again it was announced that Les and Graham were indeed the winners of the race. In fact the RO spent so much time performing his calculations that the last race was started late. Read about it here.

Unique homework resource

A correspondent has written to inform me that this humble website is proving to be an invaluable resource for school homework in numerous subjects.

Les and Graham unable to sail

Les and Graham were unable to sail on 30 September, which was a beautiful day.

Les was nursing a nasty face wound received at Stockport when he was bitten by an angry dog. Graham says there are a lot of dogs in Stockport.

Graham, on the other hand had problems with his plumbing. Les reckons it's Graham's age!

Check out the latest pictures which include: OK Worlds in Denmark, WOSC 8 Hour Race and Sunday 29 July when Les and Graham flew the flag (and the Police turned up).

For future reference Les, as any vexillologist will tell you, the easy way to know if the Union Flag is the correct way up is to look for the fimbriation of the ordinaries. If the fimbriation is below the saltire in the upper hoist canton, then the flag is being flown correctly.

Arena Polo

Arena 2022 12 11

If you had told me back in August, when we were all sweltering in the unusual heat and the polo grounds were parched, that I would be watching and taking pictures at a polo match while it was snowing, I would have said that you were mad. However on 11 December I found myself in sub-zero temperatures at David Ashby's wonderful new arena facility just a short distance from KPPC. Arena polo is a fast and furious game, with no pause after a goal has been scored and ends changed only after each chukka. The ball used is like a minature inflatable football and can create an incredible bang when punctured. From personal experience I can also confirm that it hurts like h**l if it hits you on the side of the head. Thanks for that, Jack! Goals scored from more than 25 yards count double. 3 players per team and an umpire in an enclosed space make for a very exciting spectacle.

Watching 2 matches in these conditions was probably enough, as by then my feet were feeling just a little numb. However it was well worth the effort I'll be back again soon. The other spectators consisted almost wholly of families of participants and were sustained during the matches with hot drinks and toasted sandwiches. Well worth a visit!

Those of you who are interested in polo can see thousands of polo photographs in my galleries. Anyone who might be interested in watching this exciting sport can come along to spectate and just see why I find it so exciting.

Kirtlington Park Polo Club is set in madnificent surroundings in rural Oxfordshire and on a beautiful Summer day it is an ideal venue for a picnic. You will be made most welcome. You can find details of match dates and times here KPPC.

WOSC

I am a member of West Oxfordshire Sailing Club (WOSC).

In addition to sailing I am a keen photographer and have placed a number of my sailing pictures in the galleries which you can access from the main menu.

I am also a member of Kirtlington Park Polo Club.

No. I do not play polo and have not been astride a horse for about 45 years. I take photographs at the polo grounds at KPPC, which are set in beautiful surroundings in rural Oxfordshire.

Polo is an excellent subject for a photographer. Beautiful horses, skilful players, a contact sport conducted at 20 mph. What's not to like?
